VICHADA RIVER

The Vichada River runs through the department of the same name, flowing into the Orinoco River and forming the northern boundary of the Matavén jungle, which boasts great biodiversity. Evidence of this includes its 249 recorded bird species and more than 137 different species of fish.

Its waters are home to great quality Peacock Bass, allowing anglers to catch photo fish every day and even the amazing trophy of a Peacock Bass weighing over 20 lbs. Fishing will take place mainly in large lagoons and sometimes in the river as well, depending on the species we aim to catch.

Fishing is only possible during the summer or dry season, because during the rainy season, the rivers overflow and the fish enter the jungle, making them impossible to locate. The fishing season runs from mid-December to early April.

The most important Indigenous community along this river is the Sikuani, who, thanks to agreements made with them, allow only our fishing operation to fish in their waters.

In the waters of the Vichada River, we won’t only find large Peacock Bass, but we’ll also be able to catch Payara, a highly sporting and challenging fish to fight. But the best part is that the variety of fish doesn’t stop there, you can also catch Royal Sardinatas, Cachamas, Payarines, Corvinas, Catfish, a long list that rivals saltwater fishing.

We have designed a 10 days trip with 6 fishing days for groups of up to 10 anglers, in order to minimize fishing pressure as much as possible. Thanks to the lodge’s proximity to the Vichada River, fishing days will run from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Accommodation is individual and includes electricity, a shelf, a mosquito net and a fan, although the nights are cool. All beds come with sheets and each room includes a towel. Every day, if guests wish, they can leave clothes to be washed and will find them clean and dry upon returning from their day of fishing.

Fishing can be done using conventional techniques such as casting or spinning and another highly effective option is fly fishing.

We welcome both experienced anglers and beginners.
