GUAYABERO RIVER

The Guayabero River winds through Colombia’s Meta region, forming part of a vital river system that supports extraordinary biodiversity. Flowing through a unique transition zone where the Amazon, Orinoco, and Andean ecosystems meet. With an impressive diversity of fish, every trip becomes an unforgettable multi-species fishing adventure.

This river offers constant fishing opportunities, where iconic species such as the Payara can be caught both with lures and fly fishing. In addition, there is the possibility of landing trophy-sized specimens exceeding one meter in length, a highly valued experience among sport anglers.

Commercial fishing is prohibited, as well as the use of nets, which ensures a more balanced ecosystem and excellent fish abundance. This results in dynamic fishing days, with multiple catches and a wide variety of species throughout the day, in a unique and unmatched wild environment.

In the waters of the Guayabero, the flagship species is the Payara, a spectacular and extremely powerful sport fish. But the richness of the fishery goes far beyond that: the river is also home to a wide diversity of catfish species, including the well-known Surubim, Dorado Amarillo (known as Jau in Brazil), and Cajaro (Red Tail Catfish). You can also target Curvinas, Cachamas, Payarinas, and many other species typical of the Orinoco basin.

Fishing is carried out during the dry season, from January to March, when water levels are more stable and visibility is at its best.

We offer a 10-day trip, including 6 full fishing days, designed for groups of up to 12 anglers. Guests can choose between hotel accommodation or a bivouac experience. All lodging options are located close to the river, allowing for long, uninterrupted fishing days that start around 6:00 AM and end at 6:00 PM.

Payara fishing can be done using conventional casting or spinning techniques, and fly fishing is also highly effective. For bait fishing, a spinning setup is perfectly suited.

Lure fishing on the Guayabero River is typically done while drifting or anchored, and in some spots it can also be practiced from the riverbank. Bait fishing is carried out from anchored boats as well as from the riverbank.

A truly accessible fishing adventure designed for all skill levels, from first-time anglers to seasoned fishing experts, ensuring an exciting and rewarding adventure.
